Chain
    Description Special notes
Functionality   Artificial intelligence photo recommendations. It's goal is to adapt to your personal taste, keep old but good photos alive, also to find hidden gems that you may not have discovered otherwise. Many great photos have never been posted to groups. Even if they were, they are probably not on the first page.
How it works   Chain learns from your thumbs up feedback. Use of thumbs up is optional but recommended. Even without your feedback the AI will attempt to display quality content. I suggest that you give a thumbs up at least when you fav a photo. Also suggest that you don't overdo thumbs up because then the AI search radius expands exponentially. If you belive that Chain is going into too many dead end streets, you can reset the search path under Setup. Resetting Chain will erase all previous thumbs up feedbacks, you can start teaching it from scratch again. The recommended way to start the Chain is to find your Flickr Twins first then do a reset chain after that.
When you see your own favs in the Chain results, those are not selected from your list of favs. The photos were recommended by the algorithm, they just happen to be your favs already.
It searches for photos in smaller batches. The size of the batch will increase as you use it more.
Input parameters Show more info for all photos Automatically fetches extra information about the photos and displays the 'more info...' panel. See detailed description under Photo page. In Chain the AI needs feedback on the photos found. Consequently, the common photo display filters can't be used, photos can't be hidden. However, this option gives you all the information that the regular filters use to hide photos. Use of this option has a small performance impact.
Output   See Photo page.
Catch up
    Description Special notes
Functionality   Staying up to date with all contacts, never miss a good photo.
How it works   Catch up picks the least recently visited contact, and displays all newly posted photos since your last visit. It remembers the date your contact was last visited. If the contact has never been visited with Catch up, then photos posted less than the specified number of days ago will be displayed. No more than 150 photos will be displayed. It silently skips a contact who has no photos to display this time or who was visited less than 4 days ago.
Input parameters First time lookback If the contact has never been visited with Catch up, photos younger than this number of days will be displayed.
  Classification See Common filters.
Contacts - Friends and family only Only visit friends and family. Catch up will still remember the last date of visit for all your contacts, as soon as you disable this option it will resume normal operation.
Photo display filters See Common filters.
Output   See Photo page.
Reciprocity a.k.a. 1/x
  Description Special notes
Functionality An easy way to see who are the key followers of your photostream, what have they done for you, what have you done for them. While you may use Catch up to contribute to your contacts, Reciprocity adds on top of this. It will bring your attention to people with no recent uploads, also to people not on your contact list.
How it works Reciprocity makes calculations by looking at past activity and suggests you people to reciprocate a photostream visit for. Reciprocity will prioritize the 'workload' for you, and will remember the date for each person for whom 'you did your part'. In case you want to revisit a person again before clicking the 'I did my part' button, simply continue with the next person in line. A person skipped will not be recommended again for 4 days.
Output See Reciprocity page.
Finder
    Description Special notes
Functionality   Photo recommendations based on advanced search parameters.
How it works   Form a sentence that describe your search criteria. One example may sound like this: I want to see all my favorites from a person who's photos I faved, his name is something like John23 and I am particularly interested in the photos I have not commented yet. Now, break down this sentence and let's match it to the various groups of the filter. You want to see your favorites, so Step 1) will be 'My favorites from'. You can set Step 2) to 'All of them' but in this case it is not needed. Step 3) becomes 'authors of my favorites'. Step 4) will be 'who's name partly matches', with the value 'John23'. Step 5) has all 3 checked in because I want to see even those 'Not successful'. Finally Step 6) has 'Not commented by me'. With this method you can search for a wide variety of photos. Alternatively, find and display a single photo based on it's photo id number.
Input parameters Favorites of... Find photos that are favorites of the people identified.
Recent... Find photos uploaded in the last X number of days. No more than 150 photos will be displayed.
Interesting... Find photos that are in the top X number of interesting of the people identified.
My favorites from... Find photos that are my favorites from the selected person.
How many photos - All of them All matching photos will be displayed.
How many photos - Randomly selected X number From all matching photos X will be selected randomly.
... my contacts Find photos that belong to or faved by my contacts, the meaning depends on Step 1) selection.
... friends and family Find photos that belong to or faved by my friend or my family, the meaning depends on Step 1) selection.
... authors of my favorites Find photos that belong to or faved by authors of my favorites, the meaning depends on Step 1) selection.
... members of my group Find photos that belong to or faved by members of my group, the meaning depends on Step 1) selection. Only if you have a group entered under Setup.
... my contacts Find photos that belong to or faved by my contacts, the meaning depends on Step 1) selection.
... my Flickr Twins Find photos that belong to or faved by my Flickr Twins, the meaning depends on Step 1) selection. Only if you ran the Twins finder previously.
... my Flickr Fans Find photos that belong to or faved by my Flickr Fans, the meaning depends on Step 1) selection. Only if you ran the Fans finder previously.
... myself Find photos that belong to or faved by me, the meaning depends on Step 1) selection.
... an arbitraty person Find photos that belong to or faved by any other person, the meaning depends on Step 1) selection. Go to the person's photostream, and copy and paste the full URL here. Always copy the full URL, not just the user name or user id number.
How many people - Randomly selected If Step 3) allows multiple people, then select random X number of them.
How many people - Who's name partly matches If Step 3) allows multiple people, then select the ones who's name partly matches the given text. The matching is not case sensitive. For example john23 will match the user called Little John239.
  Photo classification See Common filters.
Photo display filters See Common filters.
Directly jump to Each photo on Flickr has a unique id number. You can see this number in the URL when you are on the photo page. Copy and paste that number here. Do not copy the full URL, just the photo id number.
Output   See Photo page.
Group
    Description Special notes
Functionality   Photo search from your managed group. Only useful for a group administrator. Use Setup to enter your group details.
Input parameters Recent Find photos added to your group in the last X number of days. No more than 150 photos will be displayed.
Interesting Find most interesting X number of photos added to your group.
Not from a group member Hide photos that belong to any of the group members or moderators. Not functional if the group has a high number of members.
Not from a group admin Hide photos that belong to any of the group administrators. Moderators not included, just administrators.
Awarded more than or less than X times in the group Show only those photos awarded more or less than X times. Naturally, you can't select both at the same time.
Other photo display fllters See Common filters.
Award code / Invite code The simple way to enter the code is to copy and paste the HTML code, just the same as when you make a comment with the code. However, note that in this case the program will look for a very precise match. Every single character counts. Since people tend to make mistakes, or your codes may have changed over time, you can use a smaller but significant portion of the code, for example just the gif image file name. More advanced users can enter a regular expression. If you enter a regexp, then the first line must be REGEXP, then you enter your expression starting on the second line. The m - multiline and i - ingorecase regexp options will automatically be added, you only need to enter the core of your expression. If you need to use regular expressions, but not familar with them, please study regular expressions first. http://rubular.com/ could be a good starting point to both learn and test your regexp.
In order to save the code changes, please click the Photos button. In case your code - as advertised on Flickr - has a new line within an HTML tag, read the following. Let me give you an example. Some group codes are advertised like this "... blah ...<a_href ... blah ...". Imagine that _ which is inside the anchor tag is a new line character, not a space, so the word href appears in a new line. Replace those new lines with a space here when entering them in Setup. The reason is that Flickr will also replace those with a space character in users' comments.
Output   See Photo page.
Twins and Fans
    Description Special notes
Functionality   Finds your Flickr Twins and/or your Flickr Fans. Flickr Twins is my original invention, it means the small group of people who's fav 'fingerprint' is most similar to yours. Flickr Fans are the small number of people who appreciate your work the most. You can refresh the list once every 2 weeks, in the meantime you will see the previous search results.
Input parameters Twins Find my Flickr Twins.
  Fans Find my Flickr Fans.
Output   See Photo page. Twins and Fans are people. But for convenience the output displays a single photo from each person. Next to the author name you will see their user type whether they are fans, twins or maybe both.
Setup
    Description Special notes
Functionality   Change your managed group - for admins. View Chain statistics and on demand reset Chain search path. See who's next on the Catch up.
Input parameters Group From the drop down menu select your active group, to be used under Group tab. Save the change with the Go button.
Output Chain Approval rate Chain approval is the indicator of how good You think the photos in Chain currently are - supposing that you are using the thumbs up feedback. The higher, the better. Note that as the AI is experimenting with a new path, even at higher Chain approval rate you may occasionally see a batch that you like less than average.
Next person in Catch up The person who's photostream will be visited by Catch up the next time. Next person in Catch up depends on whether you limit next search to friends or family only and whether next person has any new uploads.
Confirmation message when action was completed.

General
  Description Special notes
Navigation In addition to the mouse control, You may use a few keyboard keys to help your navigation.
Tab and Page down keys = jump to next photo
Page up key = jump to previous photo
Home key (Apple has no Home key) = jump to the top of the page. Identical to clicking on the up arrow at the bottom of the photo panel.
Enter or Space key (may be web browser specific) = after Home key, re-run the query with the same parameters. Identical to clicking on the Photos button.

Performance Often times the Flickr backend servers do not respond to queries. If Flickr has technical issues, Deep Dive does not immediately give up a request, it attempts to resend the request again and again for approximately 10 minutes. This behavior may appear as slowness of Deep Dive, however there is little we can do while waiting for the Flickr servers.
If the photo classification is on (= not all three checkboxes are selected) then the program takes extra time to evaluate each photo and filter them for you. You loose some time with the evaluation, but gain time by only looking at photos that are more likely to be in your interest. In Group and Easy the photo classification is not currently used, on the other hand in Chain there is no way to turn photo classification off.
If you enable the Not invited, Not commented or Awarded more/less filters, then it will take a small amount of extra time for each photo. Similarly, the Get more information checkbox under Chain has a negative impact on performance.
Time shift The photo classification algorithm shifts the timeline back by 3 days. In Catch up you will see posts from the last 3 days in the next round. Similarly, searching for recent photos in Finder has the 3 days shift too. Only applicable when not all 3 classification levels (Successful, Undervalued, Not Successful) are selected.
Caching The application is designed with appropriate data caching, to improve performance and lessen the load on the Flickr servers. If your data is not up to the minute, it will be refreshed in a few hours.
Classification My mathematical formula that analyzes various photo parameters and puts the photo into Successful, Undervalued or Not successful categories. Creates an equal playing field for all photos. Creates a filtering option used by many Deep Dive apps. Completely independent of the Flickr Interestingness. Inspired by great photographers on Flickr who's artwork is less known. Also inspired by the fact that good photos get forgotten after the 3rd page of a group - if at all posted to groups.
Data protection against Without Flickr login mode. Data of user X in logged in mode is separate from data of user X in non-logged in mode. Nobody can impersonate your logged in self, Flickr protects you.
Extreme number of favs Over 5000 favs Deep Dive will only know about your most recent 5000 favs. Photos faved earlier will appear as if they were not faved, but this does not in any way change your data on Flickr.
Session data mismatch When you see this message, it means that this particular operation is not advised to run in a second session.
